Practicum

Practicum Script is an online simulation-based program designed to augment clinical reasoning skills while introducing the nuances of uncertainty in decision-making processes.

Contextual Use: Accessible exclusively to Year 6 students, Practicum Script offers a unique registration link specifically provided to facilitate signup for the platform.

Staff Access: For staff members seeking access, please contact the Digital Learning Team at elearnm@imperial.ac.uk for further information.

Features of Practicum Script

  • Case-Based Approach: Students are prompted to suggest investigations, differential diagnoses, and management plans, mimicking PACES (Practical Assessment of Clinical Examination Skills).
  • Quantitative Assessment: Students use a sliding scale to quantify the ‘likelihood’ of a diagnosis or the ‘usefulness’ of investigations/management strategies.
  • Comparison with Experts: Students can compare their responses with those of experts, acknowledging differing opinions similar to real clinical practice.
  • Dynamic Case Progression: As students progress through cases, the platform unveils more information, challenging them to evaluate if this information alters the likelihood of their hypotheses.
  • Expert Opinion Tracking: Students can observe how expert opinions evolve with additional information, along with the rationale behind these changing perspectives.
