Authoring an exam in LAMS

To gather feedback you will need to create a test exam link for the relevant staff members to ensure any feedback is collected and the appropriate corrections made. This requires you to author an exam to include the instructions and the questions you have created.

 

  1. Go to the LAMS website 
  2. Select the ‘Author’ in the top right-hand corner of your screen.

 

Adding Instructions

  1. Under the heading content, select ‘Noticeboard’ and drag this into the whiteboard area of the screen.
  2. Double-click on the new Noticeboard icon.
  3. Under ‘Title’ type ‘Instructions’.
  4. In the Instructions area use the template below to add the instructions information (this is the information that would usually sit on the first page of an exam).
  5. For the Header at the top of the instructions, select the ‘T’ icon in the toolbar- Text Templates, and scroll to the bottom to select ‘Header Waves’.
  6. When finished press ‘Save’.

Template for Instructions (the first two lines will sit in the header at the top of the page:

All of these files are also available to download at the top of each page of your exam once you begin.
Click Next Activity to begin and then wait for the password to proceed.

Adding the Questions

  1. Under the heading Assessment, select ‘Assessment’ and drag this into the whiteboard area of the screen.
  2. Double-click on the new Assessment icon.
  3. Title- Add an appropriate title following the example- BMB Year 1 Summative Examination – STAT.
  4. Instructions- Add anything text/files here students will need throughout the exam.
  5. To import the questions you previously created, scroll to the ‘Question Bank’ section. Use the Advanced search tool to find the specific collection.
  6. Click on each individually and in order and select ‘Import’.
  7. Once they have all been added click on the star icon next to each question to ensure all are required questions.
  8. Ensure the number of marks provided for each question is correct.
  9. For feedback ensure that the following settings are enabled.
  10. Press ‘Save’.

Joining the Sections

To allow for the questions to continue after the Instructions you will need to join the sections.

  1. Selection the ‘transition’ tool at the top of the page.
  2. The click on the Instructions box first followed by the Exam box.
  3. This will create a line joining the two together.

Entering Partial Exam Scores on LAMS Platform

Select the exam you would like to edit.

Click Open.

Double-click on the Exam activity.

You will now either already have the questions added or you will now need to add them to the exam. Select the text box with the mark allocated. Type in the new partial mark to the box and click out of the text box to confirm. Press select at the bottom of the window to save the changes.
