BMB: LAMS via Blackboard
Welcome to the BMB LAMS resource pages
The video guides below show how to create a LAMS lesson from a BMB TBL template and how to run it in Blackboard.
Step 1: Write your questions
Write the instructions and questions for your TBL activities. It is recommended to have them reviewed by a colleague.
Step 2: Go to Blackboard and open LAMS Author
Step 3: Create a LAMS lesson
There are a few ways of creating a LAMS lesson. If you’re creating a TBL lesson, the easiest way is to use the built-in TBL template (‘wizard’). You will not need to add/upload the iRAT/tRAT questions twice.
It is also possible to create a lesson from scratch or as a copy of another lesson. Note that in this scenario you may need to add the iRAT/tRAT questions twice.
If you create a lesson from scratch or as a copy of another lesson, this is how you add questions and adjust the settings. However, for a TBL lesson, it is easier to use the built-in template – no need to worry about the settings!
See Troubleshooting for issues with zipped files on Mac computers.
Note: if you change the content of the iRAT, always check if the changes have transferred to the tRAT. They should, but it’s best to check.
If you have created your own TBL lesson, this video shows which settings it is useful to double-check to make sure everything works as intended.
Step 4: Add the LAMS lesson to Blackboard
Step 5: Add the groups and view in Monitor
Follow the instructions in the image below to create and upload an Excel template with student groups. Note that LAMS will only accept .xls (97-2004) files, not .xlsx.
This video shows how to upload the template.
Step 6 (optional): Have your lesson checked by the Digital Learning team
If you want your lesson checked by the Digital Learning team, please get in touch at least 48 hours (= 2 working days) before the f2f session. We will not be able to accommodate late requests.
