MedLearn Quizzes
MedLearn allows you to add individual questions within a page as well as entire quizzes.
How Questions and Quizzes work in MedLearn
- There are four types of quiz question in MedLearn:
- Single Best Answer (Radio Button Type)
- Multiple answers (Checkbox Type)
- Fill in the blanks
- Reflective/ free text with feedback
- Questions are added to a question ‘bucket’ e.g. Easy / Medium / Hard or Topic A / Topic B etc.
- Quizzes are made by adding questions from different buckets e.g. Add all questions from a single bucket, or add 5 questions from Bucket A, 5 from Bucket B and 10 from Bucket B.
- Questions are added randomly to each quiz and by default the order is randomised. e.g. you could have 30 questions in a single bucket, and create a quiz with 10 questions, selected at random from that bucket.
- Each student taking the quiz would be shown a different order / selection of questions
Quiz options
Quiz options include:
- An availability start date & time / end date & time window
- Maximum number of attempts e.g. 1 attempt only or unlimlited attempts
- A customised message to show after the quiz
- An optional URL to redirect to after quiz completion
- Optional email addresses to contacvt when a quiz has been completed
- Option to email the student when the quiz has been completed
- Optional time in hours and days to restrict between quiz attempts
Reporting

- How many attempts each student has had on a quiz
- The time taken to complete the quiz
- A breakdown of each quiz attempt for each student
All data for quizzes can be downloaded to a CSV / Excel if required
- Navigate to Quizzes > Add new bucket.
- Add your bucket name and click ‘Publish’

FAQs
Look for a menu item called 'Quizzes' in the admin dashboard. It this doesn't exist, please ensure that the plugin has been activated in Plugins page.
When viewing the list of questions in a bucket, look for the 'Shortcode' text which should be
Cope this text, including the square brackets, and paste it into any page in the location you wish to add the question.
When viewing that page, the ek-question text is converted into the question. An example question is shown below

When viewing the list of quizzes, look for the 'Shortcode' text which should be

When viewing the list of quizzes, look for the 'Quiz Attempts' link to view all students enrolled on that site, along with how many attempts they have and their highest score.
Clicking the 'Results' link for each student will show you each attempt for that student as well as the time taken and score.
Yes, you can attach quiz results to an assessment in the MedLearn ePortfolio. Here's how:
- From the main MedLearn admin page, navigate to the module / group / programme to which you wish to add the assessment
- Create a new assessment
- Navigate to the site where the quiz is located
- From the the quiz results page click the 'Publish results to the ePortfolio' button
- Select the quiz you wish to publish the results to
Things to note:
- Once published, any new quiz attempts are not synced unless you repeat the process above
- You can publish the results as many times as you wish and the highest score achieved is always pushed to the student's eportfolio
- Students can view their highest score, along with the number of attempts they have had for that quiz
- Students cannot see the individual questions / feedback for each quiz, only the highest score achieved
Yes, locate their attempt in the quiz results section and click the 'delete attempt' button
Simply reload the quiz once restarted / re opened the browser and the quiz attempt is shown - students can click the attempt to return to the quiz, assuming they have time left on the quiz, and the quiz availability window is still open.
You can crate different 'grades' for an individual quiz e.g. over 90% is a First, and give specific feedback for students achieving that grade.
As an example, you could guide students to different revision content if they do poorly in an assessment.
One question type is 'Reflective Text'. These questions cannot be added to a quiz and are ignored when selecting quiz questions from buckets.
Instead, they are embedded individually in the context of a page. You can ask students to give their thoughts on a scenario, or any other response that requires paragraph based responses.
Once submitted, feedback is given to the student e.g. a model answer, or prompts of things to consider.
This reflective text REMAINS on the page for this student so if they return to the page they are shown their response.
Finally, ii is possible to show a students previous response to a reflective question on a different page by using the shortcode [ek-question-response id=123] where 123 is the question ID. This can be used to prompt students to reconsider their given answer once more information has been given.
