Adding Vimeo videos
Using Vimeo to share videos
Please note that we do not reccomend using Vimeo for student content. Instead please use Panopto for teaching content
1. Logging In and Navigating to Library:
- Open your web browser and go to the Vimeo website.
- Log in using the provided login details.
- Once logged in, you should see the main page.
- To create a new folder, navigate to the left-hand side and click on “Library.”
- Click on the plus icon to create a new folder.
- Enter a title for the folder and press “Create.”
2. Uploading a Video:
- Click on the “Upload” feature at the top of the page.
- Alternatively, use the blue button on the right-hand side if the left one is not visible.
- Choose the preferred upload method (e.g., “Upload from Computer”).
- Select the video file you want to upload and click “Open.”
- Wait for the video to load onto Vimeo.
3. Organising Video in a Folder:
- To ensure the video is in the correct folder, click on the three dots at the top of the video.
- Select “Move” and choose the appropriate folder.
- You can use the search feature to find the folder if needed.
- Press “Move” to place the video in the selected folder.
4. Customising Video Details:
- Edit the video details, such as title, description, and thumbnail.
- Optional: Use the editing features for cutting sections of the video if necessary.
- Adjust captions if needed.
5. Sharing and Distribution:
- Click on the “Share” icon at the top of the page.
- Choose to share the link directly or copy the embed code for embedding elsewhere.
6. Embedding the Video on a Website (WordPress):
- Open the page you want to edit in WordPress.
- Click on “Edit Page” at the top left.
- Choose the “Visual” view to see the page as viewers will.
- Identify the desired location for the video.
- Switch to the “Text” view and paste the copied embed code.
- Switch back to the “Visual” view to confirm the video placement.
7. Adjusting Video Size (Optional):
- If needed, go back to the Vimeo site and edit the dimensions of the video.
- Adjust the dimensions in the embed code for the desired size.
- Update the changes and preview the video on your website.
8. Additional Notes:
- Video dimensions are not crucial, as viewers can watch in full screen.
- Viewers can also use settings to adjust video speed and quality.
