Marker Guidance
The information below includes details of each of the steps that markers must complete when:
- Authorising their Turnitin access to view student submissions
- Accessing the MedLearn marking dashboard, and
- Completing marking and feedback within MedLearn
First and second markers – consolidating marks (if using double blind marking)
When two markers are involved, both must complete their marking before any marks can be seen by the other marker. Once you and your second marker have finished, you will be able to see their name and the marks they have awarded.
Marks Calculation:
MedLearn will automatically calculate the overall marks based on the weighting of each criterion. If any marking consolidation is needed you can view the marks they have given and adjust yours if you feel appropriate, or else contact them to discuss.
Marker Discrepancy:
Both first and second markers must complete the marks and feedback fully. If the overall mark difference between markers is ≥ 5%, they must discuss and come to an agreement to reduce the difference.
FAQs
First, make sure that you are accessing the correct MedLearn platform for the assessment(s) that you have been asked to mark.
Second, it may be that you need to authenticate your machine through Zscaler. Type Zscaler into your Windows search bar and open the Zscaler application. When open click "authenticate" and allow the authentication step to complete. It should only take a minute or two. Leave the Zscaler window open and try to access MedLearn again.
If the guidance above does not work contact your programme administrator or teaching fellow as it may be that you have not been added to MedLearn.
If when opening a student submission in MedLearn you see a message 'Student Submission not found' it could be due to a few reasons:
- The Student Paper IDs have not been uploaded into MedLearn
- The TurnitIn IDs have not been added into MedLearn
- The Student has not made a submission

If you're trying to access a student submission in MedLearn, but your browser page is stuck at the Turnitin loading screen, and it does not load after some time, re-visit and complete Steps 1, and Steps 4-7 in the Marker Guidance instruction ensuring that the web pages have fully loaded before closing.
If you are unable to view the Turnitin submission in MedLearn and only see 'Loading...' where the assignment should be, this is likely due to your Turnitin role being detected as Student. To check and change your role in Turnitin, follow the steps outlined here: Turnitin: Change from a Student to an Instructor role.
If you see the Turnitin login screen instead of a student submission it's likely that you have not completed the required authentication steps. Re-visit and complete Steps 1, and Steps 4-7 in the Marker Guidance instruction ensuring that the web pages have fully loaded before closing.
If when trying to access a student submission, you see the Turnitin error 'Sorry, that page doesn't exist!', this is likely because you have not been authorised to view the assessment. Contact your programme administrator or teaching fellow with a screenshot of this message.
