Communication with Markers
See below an instruction to markers template that has been used by some of our programme teams. It’s important to communicate each of the steps that markers need to follow, as well as including each of the links that markers need to select in order to successfully enter and complete their marking session(s).
These links may include:
- A link to the student submission portal
This isn’t necessary if markers are not required to access a student submission for the assessment(s) that they are marking (i.e. they’re marking a student exam, oral presentation, etc.). In such instances provide details of what markers are expected to assess and when/where they can access this
- A link to the correct instance of MedLearn for the cohort of Markers that you’re supporting (UG, PG)
Please amend the template below with assessment specific information before sharing with colleagues who are supporting your programme.

Authentication step 1:
To access student submissions from within MedLearn, you must first add the Turnitin submission class for the assessment(s) that you are marking to your Turnitin profile.
This can be done by logging in to either Blackboard or Insendi (depending on where students have submitted their assessment) and opening the page which contains the Turnitin submission portal for that particular assessment.
This only needs to be done the first time that you are accessing an assessment on any module.
- Please log into Blackboard or Insendi via the url here:
- Provide Url for markers to select
- Please navigate to the Turnitin submission area for the assessment that you are marking, or select the url here:
- Provide Url for markers to select
Contact your programme administrator or teaching fellow for help finding this page if you’re unable to do so.
MedLearn access and authentication step 2:
- Open MedLearn via the url below and select ‘My marking’:
- Provide Url for markers to select
- Select the desired Module that you are marking to open the list of students that have been allocated to you for marking
- Select ‘Log into Turnitin’ located at the top of the page in green
- When logged into Turnitin, select any of the classes that are listed to open a submission class.
- Please note:
- Before proceeding from this step, you must ensure that you are getting detected by Turnitin as an Instructor (and not as a student). You will find your status in the top-right hand side of the page, between the Messages and Language buttons. If detected as a student click on ‘Student’ and select ‘Instructor’ from the the drop-down menu.
- If you cannot see this option please click here for Instructions on changing your role from a Student to an Instructor role.
- Return to MedLearn and access each of the students that have been allocated to you for marking. Their submission should now be visible under ‘Submission’ and you can enter marks and feedback into the ‘Marking form’. The marks and feedback that you enter will be saved automatically.
